How wonderful it is to see people giving everything they’ve got and see the happiness coming from deep inside: that’s what I saw last night at a concert by Candan Erçetin, (to hear some music click on “muzik kutusu”). A friend got me a seat at the front, and to be honest I had no idea what to expect. But I was immediately grabbed by her music and appearance. The setting also helped: in an open air theatre in the heart of Istanbul she descended the stone stairs towards the podium in a bright purple dress with a powerful smile on her face that struck me straight away. Everything was good: from the stage and the twelve musicians accompanying her, to her voice and energy and details like her shoes (sounds silly, but really, she was wearing the best silver glitter stiletto heeled shoes I’ve ever seen). A sparkling, intense, beautiful and exuberant concert that again opened my eyes: there is still so much quality music for me to discover in this country.
