New habits
It’s a pity that I didn’t really closely observe people before the smoking ban in public places was introduced, on Monday of last week. It’s now forbidden to light up even on the outside deck of the ferry. The ferry ride I take regulary lasts only ten minutes, but for smokers, that can be too long. I know, I’ve been one myself. Ten minutes just sitting and staring, that’s a perfect smoking opportunity. And now suddenly, that habit is forbidden. But when I look around on the boat, I see funny behaviour that I’m pretty sure wasn’t to be seen so much before the ban. The favourites: playing with your lighter, curling your hair with your fingers, scratching your nose and tapping your fingers on your knees. New habits replacing old ones.
